Horse Training Services

Susan and Katie offer horse training services from starting colts to tune ups to discipline specific training. Our core model and belief is training each individual to be soft,  physically and emotionally balanced and strong. We feel it is important that they are all treated like athletes to limit physical set backs.

At HMR we have a tailored feeding program to each horse and routine visits from our equine dentist, chiropractor and farrier for those that require the work.

We believe that training a horse at their own speed is vitally important for the longevity of their mind and body. While training colts, and even tune-ups, we go through all the bases and make sure that no steps are skipped! Having a horse that is predictable and reliant on their confident handler is highly important to us.

Our program has seen a variety of breeds, from drafts to warmbloods, thoroughbreds and ponies, and our favorite, the cowbred. We have started prospects for many disciplines from dressage to roping to driving.

We focus towards cow horse and ranch versatility for our personal horses.

We require a 3 month minimum for starting colts. Each horse is different, some are fast learners, innately kind and gentle while others might require more time because mishandling and/or strong fight or flight  instincts ect.

We believe in building the horse you want to ride from the ground up!

Our Lesson Program

Our lesson program focuses on developing the rider into a horseman. We offer lessons from elementary levels to advanced. By focusing on the seat, hands and leadership abilities in each individual can develop a rider for any discipline. We often make our students ride bareback and/or without hands on a lunge line. We want to encourage the growth of a confident horseman not just a rider. Our program does not allow a rider to ride above their capabilities but promotes learning and advancement. We like to bring self awareness to the rider, don't be surprised if we find something elementary to work on with an advanced rider. We want a strong foundation for a strong horseman.

We have a variety of lesson horses and we do encourage owners to take lessons with their horses.

Horse Sales

We offer our own horses from our breeding program, very rarely do we advertise. If you are looking for your next partner don't hesitate to reach out. We may have something available or know of something on the market.

We offer consignment on special individuals that we feel are good upstanding horses. We don't take just anything in! We are picky! Not only do we want the best for the buyers, we want the best for the horse.

Truthfully, we don't love selling horses. We want to see each horse find the perfect fit as well as each person find their perfect horse. So be prepared if we have as many questions for you, as you do for us!

Breeding

Our breeding program is close to our hearts. Our mares have all served us in many ways and proven their minds bodies and souls. Each being unique in their qualities and traits. We love old school bloodlines and believe that maintaining them is important. While you will see old-school bloodlines, you will see them paired with some main stream quality genetics. You can find out more about our breeding stock on " Our Mares " and " The Boys" pages.

We raise our foals out on foothill/mountain pastures. They learn to negotiate rock piles, brush and some steep terrain. They also learn important herd dynamics and social skills.  â€‹

Consulting

The horse industry is large! It can be hard to find the right avenue. We love to help people, that want help! If you are looking to purchase a horse, find a trainer, set a goal, help with a feeding program, or evaluate your horses body score, we are happy to chat.

All too often we see people needing help with their horse that they purchased just to learn that they need to invest in training, supplements or learn that their horse is not a fit for what they need.

We cannot express enough how important it is to consult with a trusted person that has your best interest and the horses best interest in mind. Find a professional or an experienced person that will help. A honest non-biased opinion may not always be what we want to hear. However, in the long run it can save some money and heartbreak!
